Sydney Luther Wells, Jr.

Sydney Luther Wells, Jr., age 78, of Moberly, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Harry S. Truman VA Hospital in Columbia, surrounded by his loving family.

Sydney was born on December 11, 1946, in Chicago, Il., a son to the late Sydney and Virginia (Deckert) Wells, Sr.

Sydney proudly served his country in the United States Marines during the Vietnam Conflict. 

On March 25, 1969, he was united in marriage to Iva Sue Lowe in Chicago, Il. Iva preceded him in death on January 20, 2015.

Sydney was self-employed for most of his life, he was a jack of all trades, like helping with plumbing, fixing washing machines and working on anything he set his mind to.

Sydney enjoyed fishing, decorating for Halloween, playing horseshoes and cards, telling stories, drawing, and playing computer games. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family and friends. 

Sydney is survived by his children, Shirley (Danny) Meyer of Moberly, Edward Wells of Moberly, Virginia Sue Wells of Moberly, and Sydney (Micaela) Wells, III of Granite City Il.; twenty grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews and friends. 

In addition to his parents and wife of 45 years, Sydney was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Kmiec.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at Morton Chapel in Linn with a Celebration of Life Service and Full Military Honors to follow at 3:00 p.m. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Lane Cemetery.
