Stephen G. Morfeld, Sr., 82 of Linn passed away Saturday, August 16, 2008 at Columbia Regional Hospital in Columbia.
He was born March 8, 1926 in Westphalia to the late George and Josephine (Falter) Morfeld.
Stephen graduated from Freeburg High School in 1944. He was a World War II Army veteran and received the Purple Heart.
On November 29, 1952 he married Marie Klebba in Freeburg. She survives of the home in Linn.
Stephen worked for MoDOT for 42 years on the bridge crew, retiring in 1988. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, reading, dancing and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of St George Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 317 in Freeburg, VFW Post #4756 in Linn, and a lifetime member of D.A.V. Post #17. He also was a member of the Association of Retired Missouri State Employees.
Additional survivors include one son Stephen and his wife Carol Morfeld, Jr. of Linn. Two brothers, Fred and his wife Leona Morfeld of Westphalia and Frank Morfeld of Festus. Three grandchildren, Amy and husband Sam Niederhelm, Eric and his wife Ashlee Morfeld and Katie Morfeld and two great grandchildren, Daulton and Peyten Niederhelm. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Maria Morfeld. A special friend Chris Bauer also survives.
Visitation will be 4:00pm-8:00pm Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at the Morton Chapel in Linn. American Legion Services will be at 7:00pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00am Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at St George Church with Fr. I.C. Medina as the Celebrant. Interment with full Military Honors will follow in the St George Cemetery.
