Sandra M. Schaefer

Sandra M. Schaefer, age 65 of Forsyth, formerly of Osage County, passed away Sunday September 24, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her family.

Sandra was born March 21, 1958, a daughter to the late Hugo and MaryAnn (Schepker) Backes.

Sandra graduated from Jefferson City High School, Class of 1976. She later attended Linn Technical College, graduating in 1990, earning a degree in Computer Programming and Columbia College graduating in 2012, earning a degree in Business Administration.

Sandra worked as an accountant for the State of Missouri for 30 years, retiring in 2018. Sandra enjoyed her retirement next to Lake Taneycomo, joining her homeowner’s association and becoming president.

Sandra enjoyed sewing, cooking, fishing, golfing, working on projects, going on trips to the casino, putting together puzzles, playing board and card games, watching NASCAR, the Cardinals, and cheering on the Chiefs. She loved spending time with her family and friends, with her grandchildren being her pride and joy.

Sandra is survived by her four children and twelve grandchildren, Jessica Courtney, her husband Mark, and their children Olivia, Adele, Jack, and Eli of Kansas City; Jesse Vogel, his wife Rebecca, and their children L.J., Anna, Audrey, and Jacob of Mansfield, Texas; Josie Townsend, her husband Grant, and their children Leland, Levi, and Lucy of Springfield; and Kelsey Woehr, her husband Nevan, and their son Bohen of Rich Fountain. Sandra is also survived by her five siblings Leon (Linda) Backes of Meta, Randy (Debbie) Backes of Taos, Doug (BJ) Backes of Westphalia, Brenda (Tim) Sims of Jefferson City, and Jeff (Sandy) Backes of Eugene.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Maryanne.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Morton Chapel in Linn. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m.
