Robert “Bob” E. Ashby, age 87 of Linn, passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City.
Bob was born December 11, 1930, in McHenry, Kentucky, a son to the late Vernie and Frances (James) Ashby.
On April 8, 1967, he was united in marriage to Nancy Miller in Chicago, Illinois. She survives of the home.
Bob proudly served his country for 21 years in the United States Army retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1968. He served during the Korean Conflict, Vietnam War and tours in Panama, Japan, and Germany. Served as the Chief of Police of Linn during the 1970’s and later worked as an instructor as Linn State Technical College.
Bob was a member of the First Baptist Church in Linn. He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing blue grass and country songs. Bob was a Mr. Fix It and a Jack of all Trades repairing watches, restoring his jeep, and working on projects around the house. He had a strong interest in his family history and enjoyed watching old westerns.
In addition to his spouse of 51 years, Bob is survived by: four sons, Robert Ashby, Jr. of Corydon, IN, Timothy Ashby of Hartford, KY, Mark Ashby of Broken Arrow, OK, and Jeffrey (Ashley) Ashby of Hartford, KY; six daughters, Carolyn Sue (Alan) Blackburn of Osage Beach, Terri Ashby of Altamont, KS, Angela Ashby-Burris (fiance Scott Blevins) of Bartlesville, OK, Juliana (Alan) Rhea of Bonnots Mill, Jennifer Ashby of St. Louis and Sally (Brett) Phillips of Linn; one sister, Priscilla (Kenny) Smith of Centertown, KY; one sister-in-law, Liz Ashby of Linn; 30 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren with one of the way; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by: two brothers, Charles and Vernie D. Ashby; one sister, Mary Rodig; a grandson, Richard Nabours; two granddaughters, Tiffany Ashby-Howard and Violet Marie Ashby; and two great grandchildren, Kyle and Kayla Fisher.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2018, at First Baptist Church in Linn. Funeral Services will follow at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. David Kruger officiating. Military Honors will follow the service.
