Richard A. Pope, Sr

Richard A. Pope, Sr. age 76, of St. Louis passed away Saturday, May 21, 2011, at St. Johns Mercy Health Center in St. Louis.

Richard was born November 11, 1934, in St Louis, a son to the late Harry and Helen (Reader) Pope.

On May 26, 1960, Richard was united in marriage to Loretta M. Mantle in Clayton, MO. She preceded him in death on April 23, 2010.

Richard was a graduate of Country Day High School in St. Louis and attended Washington University.

Richard worked for Pope's Cafeteria, which had been founded by his grandfather in 1917. Pope's Cafeterias were located throughout the St. Louis area and operated until the last one closed in 1989.

Richard had been a member of the Missouri National Guard and a 45 year member of JCCA. He was also an avid swimmer, a hobby he enjoyed throughout his life.

Survivors include: two sons, Richard ""Rick"" Pope, Jr. of the state of Massachusetts, and Harry Pope III and his wife Shawn of the state of Florida; two daughters, Deborah McKay and her husband Kenneth of St. Peters and Abbi Piper and her husband John of Florissant; 3 brothers, Ron and his wife Nancy Pope of Florida, Harry Pope, Jr. of Clayton and Henry Pope of Florissant; three sisters, Peggy Strieder of Clearwater, FL.,Cindy Williams of St. Louis, and Grace Pope of Florissant; nine grandchildren, Bobby (wife Jessica), Scotty, Tommy, Joy, Christopher, Caitlyn, Chandler, Jason, and Katie; a brother-in-law, Bob Strieder of Clearwater, FL.; an aunt, Gladys Anderson of Louisville, CO.; a cousin, Charles Reader of Melbourne, FL. He is also survived by his beloved ten year old Jack Russell Terrier, Pat, as well as other cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, June 26, 2011, at the Vosholl Church Cemetery in Linn.
