Opal Pearl Matthews

Opal Matthews, age 87, of Chamois passed away Friday, August 27, 2010, at Adams Street Place in Jefferson City.

Opal was born on April 8, 1923, in Linn, a daughter to the late John Edward and Sophia (Matthews) Huot.

She attended school at Potts School in Osage County.

On March 12, 1941, she was united in marriage to Harold G. Matthews in Belle, MO. He preceded her in death on October 15, 1983.

Opal was a homemaker and member of the Community of Christ Church in Linn. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, porcelain doll making, gardening and working in her flower gardens.

Opal is survived by: two sons, James "Jim" Matthews and his wife Marlene and Thomas Edward "Ed" Matthews both of Chamois; two daughters, Diana Franken and her husband Kenneth of Linn and Sheila Kenyon and her husband Bill of Lee Summit, MO; two sisters, Imogene Thompson of Linn and Pat Asher of Jefferson City; one grandson, Kevin Franken; seven step grandchildren; two great grandchildren, Katelyn and Madelyn Franken, and 12 step great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Opal was preceded in death by: three brothers, Tom, Robert and Howard Huot; one sister, Juanita Helmig; and one granddaughter, Jodie Franken.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 30, 2010, at Morton Chapel in Linn.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 31, 2010, at Morton Chapel. Interment will follow in the Community of Christ Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Community of Christ Cemetery.
