Matt A. Voss, age 89 of Linn, passed away Monday, February 15, 2021, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City surrounded by his loving family.

Matt was born March 23, 1931 in Linn, as son to the late Matt W. and Margaret (Kliethermes) Voss.

He was a 1949 graduate of Linn High School. Matt served his country in the United States Air Force from 1952 until 1956 during the Korean Conflict.

On May 15, 1957, he was united in marriage to Rosemary “Rosie” Scheulen at St. George Catholic Church.  She preceded him in death on February 3, 2021. 

Matt was a dairy farmer for 30 years and then in 1985 he started raising beef cattle only.  He retired in 2011. He also worked for three years at Linn State Technical College. 

Matt was a member of St. George Catholic Church and a member of Knights of Columbus for over 50 years.  He was also a member of American Legion Post #317 in Freeburg serving as Adjunt for 6 years and was a board member for the Public Water District and the maintenance supervisor for 5 years.    

Matt loved deer hunting, bird hunting, fish gigging, teaching the grandchildren how to hunt and fish.  Matt enjoyed baseball in the front yard, pitching horseshoes, playing card games especially Preference, and playing marbles. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and was always following his children and grandchildren’s sporting events.  In his younger years Matt enjoyed bowling at the VFW Bowling Alley where he won several 1st place trophies for the Linn State Bank Team. Matt and Rosie enjoyed taking road trips with each other.

Matt is survived by: six children, Colleen Kliethermes and her husband Ralph of Belle, Steve Voss and his wife Doris of Linn, Matt “Sonny” Voss of Wentzville, Diana Foster and her husband Danny of Linn, Ronald Voss and his wife Lara of Linn, and Douglas Voss and his wife Brenda of Lohman; 22 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren with one on the way; two sisters-in-law, Barb Voss of Washington and JoAnn Voss of Linn; his faithful dog, Penny; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.  

In addition to his spouse and parents, Matt was preceded in death by: three brothers, William “Bill” Voss, Marcellous “Marc” Voss, and Gerald “Jerry” Voss; and one sister, Ruth “Tiny” Gadell.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2021, at St. George Catholic Church in Linn.

Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Fr. Colin Franklin and Fr. Daniel Merz as Concelebrants.  Interment with full military honors will be in the St. George Parish Cemetery.
