Mary Verslues, age 82, of Loose Creek, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at StoneBridge Westphalia.
Mary was born on October 5, 1941, in Jefferson City, a daughter to the late Otto and Lula (Reynolds) Schollmeyer.
Mary was a 1959 graduate of Linn High School.
On May 20, 1967, she was united in marriage to William” Bill” Verslues at St. George Catholic Church in Linn. Bill preceded her in death on March 17, 2017.
Mary was employed at Heritage Bank and later was a substitute at the Loose Creek Post Office for over a decade.
Mary was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Loose Creek and St. Ann’s Sodality.
Mary enjoyed baking, gardening, flower gardening, quilting, and being outdoors. She was a simple person who was the caregiver of the house and always put the needs of others before herself. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family and passing down her knowledge of baking especially her chocolate chips cookies and angel food birthday cakes.
Mary is survived by: two sons, Paul Verslues and his wife Wendy of Taiwan and Bradley Verslues and his wife Angela “Angie” of Jefferson City; one daughter, Rachel Betancourt and her husband Alex of Dallas, Texas; seven grandchildren, Hannah, Lara, Kylie, Brayden, Dexter, Chase, and Josephine; one brother, Bernard Schollmeyer of Dallas, Texas, along with several nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband of almost 50 years, Mary was preceded in death by a sister, Loretta McCubbin.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Loose Creek with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Anthony Rinaldo as the Celebrant. Interment will be held in the Immaculate Conception Parish Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Alzheimer Association.
