Marvin W. Riegel

Marvin W. Riegel, age 76 of Loose Creek, Mo. passed away Sunday, April 12, 2009 at his residence.

He was born on October 3, 1932 in Osage County a son to the late Matthew J. and Minnie J. (Voss) Riegel.

Marvin attended school in Linn. He was a Korean War Army Veteran.

On July 27, 1957 he was united in marriage to Mary M. Taube in Taos, Mo. She survives of the home.

Marvin was a talented and very hard working carpenter for over 50 years. He started his own construction company in the early 1980's and later formed a partnership that became Riegel and Weber Construction Co. After retirement that legacy continued through his son Marvin Riegel, Jr. He worked full-time for the Department of Corrections as a cook for five years while also continuing his construction work. A young Marvin did whatever work he could find to help support his parents and siblings. That included helping his dad farm, hunting and trapping, cutting wood and working on the gas pipe line that runs through Central Missouri.

Marvin was a devoted family man; very proud of all his children, grandchildren, great grand children and their accomplishments; he loved them with all his heart. Dad with Moms help built a very successful business and taught his family the value of hard work and the principles of doing everything to the best of their ability. Dad took these values to heart and showed his strength and perseverance, fighting hard and successfully through several major health crisis's in the last ten years. Dad was a medical miracle and survived pancreatic cancer for over five years until bone cancer took his life; he endured much because he loved his family and he knew that they needed him.

Dad loved to build useful and creative things for family and others. He built homes for Diane, Shirley and Marvin and remodeled a home for Ann. He built numerous styles of bird houses, feeders, arbors, wishing wells, benches, flower boxes and more. These works of love can be seen at all of his children and grand-children's homes. The last few years of his life he helped his daughter Shirley, remodel houses, including the old farm house she lives in now. He loved staying at the farm and was rightfully proud of his beautiful handy-work. Marvin was awesome and one of a kind. He will be missed by all!
