Marvin Arthur Lieneke, 90, of Hermann, formerly from Chamois, passed away on Friday, December 22, 2023, at Gasconade Manor in Owensville, after a short illness.
Marvin was born on November 18, 1933, in the Morrison River bottom to Edwin and Alice (Boss) Lieneke.
A lifelong farmer, he also served in the U.S. Army as a heavy equipment operator for 2 years. He worked for McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis for a short time, and he worked part time for Eberlin Boats and Motors, Inc. for many years. He later worked for Central Electric Power Plant after he retired from farming.
He was a good mechanic, who could weld and fabricate. In retirement, he did artistic woodworking projects and shared them with many local residents. Marvin loved to talk about the past and had excellent knowledge of the people in the area from years ago.
On November 21, 1959, he married Marie Jean Deeken in Linn, who survives at the home. He is also survived by his three children: Mark (Robin) Lieneke of Chamois, Marsha (Dale) Gloe of Hermann, and Marilyn (Chris) Keilholz of Linn; five grandchildren, Benjamin (Autumn) Gloe, Justin Gloe, Dr. Emma Gloe, Kaylyn (Nathan) Bush, and Jessica Walter; two step grandchildren, Michael Massey and Benjamin Massey; one great-grandchild, Lachlan Walter; two step great-grandchildren, Cali Conley and Erick Massey; a sister, Margaret Sachse; two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Whithaus Deeken and Mary Ruth Riegel Deeken; his cat, Buddy, who survives at the farm; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by two stillborn children, Mary Ann and Marty Lieneke; and two brothers, Lester Lieneke and Herbert Lieneke.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Morton Chapel in Chamois with funeral service and full Military Honors to follow at 3:00 p.m. with Deacon Bob Schowengerdt officiating. Interment will be at a later date at the Most Pure Heart of Mary Parish Cemetery in Chamois. Marvin will be the 4th generation of Lieneke’s to be interred in the larger Chamois Cemetery.
In Lieu of Flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Most Pure Heart of Mary Parish Cemetery or the American Cancer Society.
