Marietta Schaefer, age 92, of Loose Creek, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at Heisinger Bluffs West in Jefferson City.
Marietta was born on May 24, 1932, in Folk, a daughter to the late August and Olivia (Wilde) Stegeman.
Marietta attended school in Folk.
On August 18, 1956, she was united in marriage to Francis W. Schaefer at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Folk. Francis preceded her in death on October 17, 2019.
Marietta was a homemaker for most of her life. She worked at Tweedy Shoe Factory in Jefferson City until they closed. In 1965, she went to work for McGraw-Edison and later Smith Shop and Bench-Mark until she retired in 1980 to help Francis on the farm.
Marietta was known for putting in a large garden every year and canning many jars of vegetables and fruit. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, embroidery, and crocheting.
Marietta is survived by a sister, Margaret “Margie” Haslag of Loose Creek along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband of 63 years, Marietta was preceded in death by four brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph Stegeman, Francis (Mary) Stegeman, Gene (Martha) Stegeman and Celsus (Joan) Stegeman; and three sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy (Ferd) Rustemeyer, Norma (Charles) Sandbothe and Lydia (Ray) Luecke.
Visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 5, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Loose Creek with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Anthony Rinaldo as the Celebrant. Entombment will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum in Jefferson City.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Immaculate Conception Endowment Fund in Loose Creek.
