Lorraine Elizabeth Otto, age 91, of Linn passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at SSM St. Joseph West Hospital in Lake Saint Louis, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born October 2, 1926, in St. Thomas, a daughter to the late John and Bertha (Bax) Ortbals.
On October 25, 1947, she was united in marriage to Wilfred Otto at St. Francis Xavier Church in Taos. He preceded her in death on June 5, 2002.
Lorraine worked at the hat factory in Meta during World War II. She loved hard work. Working on the farm and being around the animals was her true passion, she loved to ride around the farm on her ATV and check calves.
Lorraine was a member of St. George Catholic Church and the St. Ann’s Sodality. She loved to quilt and was also an avid baseball fan, whether it was the St. Louis Cardinals or one of her grandchildren, she never missed a game. If there was one word to describe her, it would be tough. Lorraine beat the odds more times than you could count and wasn’t scared of anything.
Her family was her pride and joy. She had 6 children, 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and was excitedly awaiting the arrival of 2 more great-grandchildren. She loved to spend time with her family on the farm and spent many days sharing her passion for agriculture with her grandchildren.
Survivors include: her six children, Ruth Ellis and Carol (Roger) Stamp of Linn, Sharon (Bob) Ridgley of High Hill, Judy (Mark) Hedrick of Lee’s Summit, Larry (Lisa) Otto of Holts Summit, and Mary (Clayton) Finn of Sturgis, SD; 13 grandchildren, Brad (Julie) Ellis, Adam (Brittany) Stamp, Jacob Stamp and Lauren Stamp, Dan (Christine) Ridgley and Tim Ridgley, Jessica (Joe) Fredrick, Christina (Sam) Poggas, Christopher (Desiree) Bellinger and Courtney Bellinger, David (Leslie Hearne) Otto, Derek (Bridget) Otto and Grant Otto; 10 great-grandchildren with two expected; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Ortbals of Linn.
In addition to her parents and spouse, she was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister-in-law.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2018, at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Frankenstein. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Daniel Merz as the celebrant. Interment will follow in the St. George Parish Cemetery in Linn.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. George Capital Campaign Fund or St. George School.
