Lena Marie Mebruer, age 103 of Rich Fountain passed away Monday, January 2, 2017, at SSM St Mary’s Health Center in Jefferson City.
Lena was born October 6, 1913, in Freeburg, a daughter to the late Henry and Elizabeth (Reichel) Talken.
Lena attended the Reichel School in Osage County as a young girl.
On September 17, 1931, she was united in marriage to Gerhard A. Mebruer in Freeburg. He preceded her in death on September 19, 1981.
In addition to being a homemaker, Lena worked several years as a supervisor at Linn Manufacturing as well as a cook at Al’s Café.
Lena was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rich Fountain and the St. Ann’s Ladies Sodality. She enjoyed singing, picking the guitar, writing songs and poetry. She also will be remembered for her “world famous” cheeseburgers.
Lena is survived by: one son, Gerhard “Jerry” Mebruer of Rich Fountain; one daughter, Marcella “Marcie” Foster and her husband Wayne of Jefferson City; 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Dorothy Mebruer of Pacific as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband of 50 years, Lena was preceded in death by, one son, Edwin “Ed” Mebruer, three sisters, Gertrude Edwards, Adeline Mebruer and Marie Porting; five brothers, Herman, Joseph, Peter and 2 infant brothers; a grandson, Roger Mebruer and a daughter in law, Margaret “Margie” Mebruer.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2017, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rich Fountain. A Rosary Service will begin at 7:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 6, 2017, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. William Debo as the Celebrant. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Sacred Heart Endowment Fund.
