Jessie M. Spillman

Jessie M. (McDaniel) Spillman, age 93, of Loose Creek, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at Heisinger Bluffs in Jefferson City.

Jessie was born on November 2, 1929, on the family farm near Linn, a daughter to the late Will and Bess (Branson) McDaniel.

Jessie attended McDaniel School which was a mile and half from her house.  She loved school and all sports with awards and honors during high school.  She was a 1948 graduate of Linn High School. 

On December 14, 1948, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, James “Jay” Spillman in St. Louis.  Jay preceded her in death on January 6, 2021.

Jessie was a homemaker, who enjoyed helping her sons with Cub Scouts.  She also owned a dress shop called Jessica’s Fashionation for several years. She also worked at the Hallmark Shop in St. Louis.  When they moved back to Linn in 1983, she was employed at State Technical College as a receptionist until she retired in 1996.

Jessie was a member of Community Christian Church in Linn. She enjoyed playing pranks on people, hosting parties, watching golf and listening to swing, country, and gospel music. 

Jessie is survived by two sons, Camron Spillman and his wife Marlene of St. Louis and Gregory Spillman and his wife Teri of Loose Creek; two grandchildren, Lindsey (Curtis) Murphy and Gregory Spillman, Jr.; four step-grandchildren, Jennifer, Angela, Chelsea and Sean; three great grandchildren, Cale and Seraphina Murphy and Atlas Heyen; two step-great grandchildren, Lily and Kaitlin; along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband of 72 years, Jessie was preceded in death by: two brothers, Homer and Robert McDaniel; and three sisters, Mabel Wolfe, June Wolfe, and Virginia McDaniel. 

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 23, 2023, at Morton Chapel in Linn with a Funeral Service to follow at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will follow in the Linn Public Cemetery. 

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
