Hallie Jewel Mantle, age 96, of rural Linn, MO died Sunday, July 25, 2010, at St Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City, MO.
She was born April 22, 1914, the daughter of Benona & Grace (Pinet) Mantle on the family farm where she continued to live throughout her life.
Hallie was educated and an educator. She graduated from Linn High School in 1931, as salutatorian of her class. After getting certified to teach, she taught at Flora School, Georgetown School, Luystown School and Forest Grove School. During the summers Hallie attended Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg, MO and received her BS degree in education in 1950. After receiving her degree, she taught in the Jefferson City Public Schools for 21 years. Hallie received a Master's degree in education from Lincoln University. In 1979, she retired from the Linn Public Schools after serving as principal for five years and as a teacher for three years. She touched many lives in her 47 years as a teacher instilling values as well as knowledge.
Aside from teaching, Hallie had a love of history and genealogy and was often asked for information that she so easily shared. She was honored by the State Genealogical Society at a banquet for the work she had done. Many articles involving Osage County were published in the Unterrified Democrat. She also loved all things living?family, friends, animals, flowers, but especially cats.
Hallie was a Christian lady and a member of the Fairview Church of Christ and later the Oklahoma Church of Christ. She served in many different capacities at each church.
Hallie is survived by two nieces, Judy Mantle & Jennifer Mantle, both of Columbia, MO and their mother, Karolyn Carver, who served as a caregiver to Hallie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Myrtle Lavenia Mantle and her brother Arnold Mantle.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 28, 2010, from 4-7p.m. at Morton Chapel in Linn.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 29, 2010, at Morton Chapel with Eric Braman officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Church of Christ Cemetery in Linn.
Memorial donations may be made to the Osage County Historical Society.
