Eugene N. Lock, age 79, a current resident of the Lake of the Ozarks, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at Lake Regional Hospital of complications due to a recent illness.
Gene was born February 19, 1938, a son to Edgar M. and Eleanore (Heinen) Lock in Bonnots Mill. He attended elementary school in Bonnots Mill and was a graduate of Fatima High School. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in 1956 where he was a saxophone player in the renowned Marine Corps Band. He served in California and marched in the Rose Bowl Parades. He was later stationed in Okinawa and Tokyo, Japan.
Upon honorable discharge, he was united in marriage to Sandra Voss in Loose Creek on November 26, 1960. He worked for his father at Traders Oil Company, then moved to Phoenix, AZ for a short time before settling back to his hometown of Bonnots Mill.
In 1976, Gene and Sandra purchased a resort on Lake Taneycomo in Branson, where he was also a trout fishing guide. In 1984, they sold the resort and purchased an RV and began their travels. Periodically over the years, they toured 48 states, 8 Canadian provinces; the highlight of their travels was spending a summer touring Alaska, salmon and halibut fishing.
Gene lived 8 years in Overland Park, KS where he was self-employed in a home improvement business. He enjoyed many sporting events; attending Royals, Chiefs and Kansas Jayhawk basketball games with friends and family in the Kansas City area. In 1992, he and Sandra returned to Branson and with his son, Wesley, developed Acorn Acres RV Park near Silver Dollar City. In 1996, they returned to the Kansas City area and resided there until 2009, at which time they purchased a home on the Lake of the Ozarks.
Throughout his lifetime, he enjoyed various outdoor sports with friends and family. For years he participated in muzzle loading matches in Osage County, showcasing the muzzle loader he crafted himself. He loved fishing on various lakes, rivers and state parks in Missouri, Colorado, and Canada. He was an avid hunter. He took elk and pheasant hunting trips with his father; also goose and duck hunted with Bonnots Mill friends on the Missouri River. He especially enjoyed years of hunting whitetail deer with his father, son, brothers and brothers-in-law on St. Aubert Island. He enjoyed a round of golf, playing poker and pitch with friends and an evening game of Upwords with Sandy was a daily routine.
In addition to his wife of 56 years, Sandra, he is survived by: one son, Wesley Lock and his wife Tamara of Protem, Missouri; a daughter, Kirsten Lock-Ryu and her husband Dr. Robert Ryu of Denver, CO; two grandchildren, Gemma and Holden Ryu; two brothers, Donald Lock and his wife Loretta of Kansas City, Missouri and Carl Lock and his wife Shirley of Linn; one sister, Sandra Lock-Ardin and her husband Mark of Lake Elsinore, CA; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 8, 2017, at St. Louis of France Catholic Church in Bonnots Mill. Funeral Services will follow with Fr. George Kramer officiating. Interment will be in the Parish Cemetery.
