Emily Rose (Knaebel) Meyer, age 92 of Bonnots Mill, passed away Monday, May 15, 2017, at Westphalia Hills.
Emily Rose Knaebel, the youngest child of Robert and Elizabeth (Toebben) Knaebel, was born on December 14, 1924, in Jefferson City. She grew up on her parents’ farm just outside of Jefferson City.
She was baptized, had her first communion, confirmation and was married at Immaculate Conception Church in Jefferson City. She also attended grade school there and enjoyed being a Girl Scout. In 1942, she graduated from St. Peter’s High School in Jefferson City.
On October 22, 1949, she was united in marriage to John F. Meyer of Bonnots Mill, at Immaculate Conception Church in Jefferson City. He preceded her in death on May 8, 1997.
John and Emily bought a farm near Loose Creek. They built a house on the farm where they lived many happy years and raised three children. They were active members of Immaculate Conception Parish in Loose Creek where their children attended grade school. Emily was one of the founding leaders of the Loose Creek 4-H Club. Emily shared her sewing skills as a 4-H project leader. She baked wonderful cinnamon rolls, pies and cakes.
Emily is survived by: three children, Cecilia Meyer Freeman and her husband Randy of Houston, TX, John F. Meyer II and his wife Margaret of Jefferson City, and Mary Elizabeth Meyer Simeroth and her husband Perry of St. Charles; five grandchildren, one great granddaughter and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents and her spouse, Emily was preceded in death by: her sister, Mary Estelle “Stella” Knaebel; and three brothers and their spouses, Clarence, Charles and Louis Knaebel.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 21, 2017, at Morton Chapel in Linn.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 22, 2017, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Loose Creek with the Rev. Paul M. Hartley as the Celebrant. Interment will follow in the Resurrection Cemetery in Jefferson City.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to Masses or Training for Life Campus.
