Elsie Grellner, age 89, of Rich Fountain, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at the Arbors at Westbrook in Jefferson City, surrounded by her loving family.
Elsie was born on September 28, 1935, in Rich Fountain, a daughter to the late Henry and Regina (Luebbert) Bock. Elsie attended Reichel School near Freeburg.
On May 4th, 1957, she was united in marriage to Thomas F. Grellner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rich Fountain. Tom preceded her in death on August 7, 2023.
Elsie was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rich Fountain, Sacred Heart Quilting Club, and the Linn VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
In addition to being a homemaker and a farmer’s wife who raised eight children, Elsie enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, canning and gardening. She also had a passion for quilting making many beautiful quilts in her lifetime for family and friends. When she found time to relax, she liked to fish, build puzzles, read, watch birds in her backyard and play cards on Sunday afternoons at her dining room table. Family was very important to Elsie. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her children, especially her grandchildren and her dog, Rex.
Elsie is survived by her children, Gene (Janis) Grellner of Linn, Judy (Kevin) Hicks of Linn, Mary Kever (Mark Meyer) of Linn, John (Jill) Grellner of Wardsville, Diane (Charles) Haslag of Loose Creek, Rhonda (Randy) Briot of Russellville, and Alan (Carrie) Grellner of Linn; a daughter-in-law, Jenn Grellner of North Carolina; 22 grandchildren, Garrett (Cassidy) Grellner, Mikayla (Luke) Pecher, Lindsay Grellner, Andy (Kristan) Dudenhoeffer, Abby (Clayton) Niemann, Chad (Sam Neal) Kever, Morgan (Stephanie) Williams, Zach (Ashton) Kever, Taylor (Kyle) Schenewerk, Amberlyn (Ryan) Ferrell, Chantz (Scott Fisher) Grellner, Seth Grellner, Owen Grellner, Jacob Haslag, Clayton Haslag, Allison Haslag, Brittany (Nate) Gibson, Megan (Garrett) Morgan, Lizzie Grellner, and Ellie Grellner, Ryan (Hali) Grellner, and Josh Grellner; 16 great grandchildren, Jane, Claire, Theo, Eve, Wyatt, Nora, Georgia, Luella, Bennett, Davi Jo, Joey, Hallie, Kolton, Remington, Charlie, and Adrian, with one on the way; one sister, Catherine (Paul) Knoch of Gulf Shores, AL.; four sisters-in-law, Helen Rudroff, and Christine Fick both of Rich Fountain, Betty Stegeman of Meta, and Cathy (Harry) Bernskoetter of Taos; along with many nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband of 66 years, Elsie was preceded in death by one son, Wayne Grellner, infant brother, Henry Bock; one sister, Evelyn (Ted) Weider; three sisters-in-law, Margaret Grellner, Ann (Gus) Wibberg, Joanie (Celsus) Stegeman; seven brothers-in-law, Ed, Paul, Joe (Mabel) and Bill Grellner, Ben Fick, Leroy Stegeman, and Bert Rudroff.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 25, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rich Fountain with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. William Debo as the Celebrant. Inurnment will be held in Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to Sacred Heart Endowment Fund or Alzheimer’s Association.
