Ellis Shepard "Pete" Bacon, age 91 of Cooper Hill, Mo passed away Thursday, April 2, 2009 on the family farm that he dearly loved.
Pete was born August 1, 1917 near Linn to the late George and Jennie (LaFevre) Bacon. He attended high school in Belle and Owensville where he graduated in 1935. He attended the University of Missouri for 3 years prior to entering the Army in March of 1941. In the Army he served as a medic in the South Pacific including the islands of Ryukyus, Luzon, Saipan, Okinawa and Leyte. Among the many medals Pete was awarded was a Bronze Star.
After his military service he worked for Solvay Chemical Company in Syracuse, New York for 2 years before finally returning to the beloved family farm in Osage County where he raised Angus cattle for the next 61 years.
Pete is survived by a sister, Grace Bacon-Ferrier of the family farm in Cooper Hill and several nieces and many friends. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mae Leach and two brothers, George "Bud" Bacon, Jr. and Charles Howard Bacon.
Visitation will be 4-8pm Saturday, April 4, 2009 at the Morton Chapel in Linn.
Funeral Services will be 1:30pm Sunday, April 5, 2009 at the St John United Methodist Church in Linn with Rev. Karen Alden and Rev. John Swatosh officiating. Interment with full Military Honors will follow in Linn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Expression of Sympathy may be made to the St John United Methodist Church or to the St George Catholic Church.
