Edward James George Nichols

Edward James George Nichols, age 89, of Chamois, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2022, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, surrounded by his loving family. 

Edward was born October 19, 1932, in Chamois, a son to the late Edward and Frieda (Schuldt) Nichols.

Edward attended Bode School in rural Chamois. 

Edward was a lifelong farmer raising Black Angus Cattle.  He was employed at Osage R-1 School in Chamois and later at Algoa Correctional Center retiring in 1995 after 20 years of service. 

Edward enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, trapping, dancing, playing pool and bingo with trips to Vegas.  He was an avid storyteller and jokester with a big sweet tooth often asking for his favorite dessert which was apple crisp.  He was proud of his family name because it meant something in the community.   His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

Edward is survived by one son, Lindell Nichols and his wife Ellen of Chamois; one daughter, Denise Nolte and her husband Mike of Chamois; eleven grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren with one on the way; three great-great grandchildren with one on the way; a sister, Goldie Asmus of Osceola, Iowa; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. 

In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by one son, Tony Nichols; one daughter, Carrie Nichols; one brother, Delvin Nichols and one sister, Ruby Collins.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at Morton Chapel in Chamois with funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m. with Zach Nichols officiating.  Interment with Full Military Honors will follow in the Deer Creek Cemetery near Chamois.
