Dwight E. Helmig, age 59, of Linn, Mo., died Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at University Hospital in Columbia, Mo.

He was born July 30, 1948, in Linn, Mo., to the late Boyd E. and Thelma L. Baclesse Helmig.

Dwight was married on September 6, 1978 to Dorothy B. Scheppers in St. James, Mo. She survives at the home.

He was a graduate of Linn High School and was a veteran of the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He worked in the manufacturing industry.

Dwight enjoyed trout fishing, golf cart repair and driving a tour bus. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a man with all the answers.

He was a member of the St. George Church, the American Legion in Freeburg, the Knights of Columbus and the Eagles Lodge.

Additional survivors include: five sons; Danny and wife, Diana Foster of Linn; Doug and wife, Trish Foster of Jefferson City; John and wife, Stephanie Helmig of Belle; Matt and wife, Darlene Helmig of Belle; David and wife, Christina Helmig of Tebbetts; two daughters; Donna and husband, Randy Schmitz of Jefferson City and Darla and husband, Harvey Voss of Linn; one brother, Duane Helmig of Linn; five sisters, Mary Jo Skidmore of Freeburg; Barbara Kochenberger of Broadway, NC.; Ruth Ann Tynes of Linn; Ronda Thompson of Linn and Brenda Doty of Rocky Mount, Mo.; eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Daniel Helmig and one sister, Karen Pearson.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2008 at the Morton Chapel in Linn, Mo.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:00 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2008 at St. George Church in Linn with the Rev. I.C. Medina as the Celebrant. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens in Jefferson City, Mo.
