Donna Barnes

Donna Barnes, age 70 of Linn, passed away Sunday, December 4, 2022, at University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics in Columbia.

Donna was born September 3, 1952, in Jefferson City, a daughter to the late Leslie and Ruby (Lansford) Branson.

Donna was a 1970 graduate of Linn High School. 

On June 5, 1970, she was united in marriage to Howard Barnes at Solid Rock Baptist Church in Judge. He survives at their home.

Donna was a stay-at-home mom raising her four children, grandchildren and great grandchild. When she was not busy raising her children, Donna was employed at Mosby Corporation, Ramada Inn in Jefferson City, State of Missouri, and worked in the kitchen at Green Meadows Nursing Home in Linn.  She also worked as an election judge in Osage County.

She was a member of Community Christian Church in Linn where she was known as the “snack lady” for the team kids program.  Donna also played the piano at Solid Rock Baptist Church.

Donna enjoyed cooking, especially making her famous fried chicken and making desserts.  She liked being outdoors gardening or watching hummingbirds and butterflies.  Donna loved to travel and especially enjoyed her girls weekends, shopping and painting pottery.  Black Friday shopping was a must each year and she was always on the lookout for her next purse. Family was very important to Donna, and she always looked forward to celebrating birthdays and holidays.  She loved playing board games, attending school and sporting events and spoiling the grandchildren.  She was an open-hearted person and had that special gift of making everyone feel special and deeply loved.

In addition to her spouse of 52 years, Donna is survived by: three daughters, Dawn Binder and her husband Benjamin of Wildwood, Sherry Cleveland and her husband Jim of Linn and Frances Boswell of Linn; a son, Justin Barnes and his wife Aurora of Linn; eleven grandchildren, Jacob and Zachary Binder, Shelby Peters and her husband Derek, Savannah Cleveland, Jared and Abigail Boswell, Camila, Austin, Kylie, Bella, and Isaiah Barnes; one great granddaughter, Amelia Peters; along with many extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at Morton Chapel in Linn with Funeral Service to follow at Noon with Robert Walling officiating.  Interment will be held at Solid Rock Cemetery in Judge.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the   Community Christian Church Youth Program.
