David H. Tripp, age 81, of Holts Summit, formerly of Bonnots Mill, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at SSM Health St. Mary’s in Jefferson City surrounded by his loving family.
David was born on February 27, 1944, in Mexico, a son to the late Harold and Dorothy (Scott) Tripp.
David was a 1962 graduate of Jefferson City High School.
On September 24, 1966, he was united in marriage to Judy Schmitz at St. Louis of France Catholic Church in Bonnots Mill. Judy survives at their home.
David was employed at Von Hoffman Press, a firefighter for the City of Jefferson, for 30 years until his retirement in 1999. He later worked for Korsmeyer Fire Protection and then Hometown Lumber in Linn.
David enjoyed quail and pheasant hunting in Red Cloud, Nebraska, fishing at Truman Lake, and hunting everything he could hunt in Osage County. He also enjoyed raising and training bird hunting dogs, playing cards especially, pitch and preference, driving the gravel back roads to think and watching western shows on television. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife of fifty-eight years, David is survived by three daughters, Donna (Kevin) Naylor of Oak Grove, Carol (Dennis) Brandt of Chamois, and Mary (Shane) Shelton of New Bloomfield; seven grandchildren, Mindy Parsley, Paige Cassels, Lindsey Shecut, Paige Shelton, Zachary Brandt, Emily Brandt, and Andrew Brandt; five great-grandchildren, Kameron, Julia, Sami, Dexter, and Ava; one great-great grandson, Waylon; one sister, Patricia (Larry) Schaefer of New Bloomfield; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Morton Chapel in Linn with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Sam Powell officiating. Inurnment will follow in St. Louis of France Parish Cemetery near Bonnots Mill.
In Lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Jefferson City Fire Museum.
