Cary Joseph Thompson, age 90 of Linn, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 3, 2022, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Cary was born August 27, 1931, in Terre Haute, Indiana, a son to the late Ray and Mary (Thomson) Thompson.
He was a 1950 graduate of Normandy High School in St. Louis. Cary proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.
Cary was in the security industry and had been employed by the United States Government, McDonnell Douglas, and Chrysler before his retirement.
Cary married Maris (Gary) Thompson who preceded him in death in 1975. On September 18, 1982, he was united in marriage to Linda Lockwood in St. Clair. She survives at their home.
Cary was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Linn, Linn Lion’s Club and American Legion Post 17 in Freeburg.
Cary enjoyed fishing, boating on Lake of the Ozarks, airplanes, his train collection, driving his rag top convertible and his CB radio handle was “Ragtop”. He loved all animals, especially his pets, and enjoyed life. His greatest joy was time spent with his family and friends.
In addition to his spouse of 39 years, Cary is survived by: a stepson, Ken Hassler of Florissant; two stepdaughters, Gayle Kummerfeldt of Petaluma, CA and Michelle Wolfe and her husband Brad of Linn; three grandchildren, Jacob (Shannon) Wolfe, Jason and Matthew Kummerfeldt; and one great grandchild, Mia Wolfe.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son and an infant brother.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, June 10, 2022, at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Linn. Funeral Service to follow at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. William Barkman officiating. Inurnment will be held at Linn Public Cemetery with full military honors.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church, Kindred Hospice or the Allen Waterman Animal Assistance Fund.
