Carol Jean Stieferman

Carol Jean Stieferman, age 85, of Loose Creek, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Oak Tree Villa in Jefferson City.

She was born on May 16, 1939, in Jefferson City, a daughter to the late Fred and Elizabeth (Backes) Koenigsfeld.

Carol was a 1957 graduate of Linn High School. She had completed all credits needed by the end of her junior year plus a summer semester at Lincoln University High School in 1956. During high school, she worked at Pointer’s Café in Linn. She then worked in the office of Three Rivers Electric Company in Linn.

On April 27, 1957, she was united in marriage to Bernard Stieferman at St. George Catholic Church in Linn. Bernard preceded her in death on January 31, 2003.

After her marriage, she moved to Peoria, Il., where Bernie was an apprentice at Caterpillar Company. She also worked at Caterpillar until her pregnancy. They moved to Washington, Il., near Peoria, after their first child was born. Carol loved life. She was a very ambitious perfectionist and had many talents. In their first house in Illinois, she sewed for a dance school. She made draperies for the household and was skilled at upholstery. She sewed many detailed Barbie outfits, clothes for herself and most of Sandy’s clothes including winter coats. She was a very good cook and gardener, producing and canning most of the family’s vegetables. She enjoyed branching out with many different crops, including peanuts. Children’s birthday celebrations almost always included a shaped cake, such as a butterfly and an elephant.

In 1970, Bernie and Carol purchased a farm near Frankenstein, moving back to the state where their parents and many relatives lived. Carol, who had a little exposure to farm life, became an excellent farming partner, working there while Bernie worked in Jefferson City. They later moved to Moberly, after Bernie began employment there. In her usual ambitious way, Carol began catering dinners for a nearby car auction. She also assisted a neighbor who raised dogs. In 1992, Bernie accepted a new job in Jefferson City. They moved back to Mid-Missouri, adopting Loose Creek as their final hometown where they designed and built a home on Cottonmeyer Hill.

Carol is survived by her children: Sandy (Marvin) Maassen, Kevin (Jeanie) Stieferman, Scott (Linda) Stieferman, Dale (Michele) Stieferman, and Keith (Angie) Stieferman; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; her devoted brother, Larry Koenigsfeld along with numerous nieces and nephews (Including greats and great greats).

The family would like to express thanks to the wonderful, caring staff at Oak Tree Villa for their support, making the past two years as comfortable for Carol as possible.
