Bridget A. Parkhurst, age 75, of Linn, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 14, 2023, surrounded by her loving family at University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics in Columbia.
Bridget was born on October 21, 1948, in Linn, a daughter to the late John J. and Lula J. (Malan) Strope.
She was a 1966 graduate of Linn High School.
On May 5, 1973, she was united in marriage to Michael Parkhurst at St. George Catholic Church in Linn. Mike survives at their home.
Bridget taught 1st grade at St. Mary’s School in Frankenstein and then spent a couple years at Scholastic in Jefferson City. She then began her 32-year career as an Accountant for the State of Missouri in the Department of Social Services.
She was a member of St. George Catholic Church in Linn, St. Ann’s Sodality, Farm Bureau and Osage County Historical Society.
Bridget enjoyed fishing, camping, reading, sewing, doing puzzles and crossword puzzles, working in her flower gardens and baking and cooking. She carried on her mother’s tradition of always treating the children on Halloween with her homemade popcorn balls. Bridget loved nature and enjoyed many Sunday afternoon drives through the countryside.
In addition to her husband of 50 years, Bridget is survived by a daughter, Anastasia “Ana” (Jeffrey) Sanner of Linn; two grandchildren, Michael and Elliott Sanner of Linn; five step-grandchildren, Sarah, Jami, Kayla, Jeffrey and Korvayr; four brothers, Francis (Charlene) Strope of Rich Fountain, David Strope of Fulton, Robert (Irene) Strope of Linn and Stanley (Margaret) Strope of Linn; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents, Bridget was preceded in death by a grandson, Gabriel Joseph Sanner, three brothers, Joe, Ben and John Strope and two sisters, Elizabeth “Liz” Kennedy and Gertrude “Gert” Peters.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at Morton Chapel in Linn.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, St. George Catholic Church in Linn with Fr. Colin Franklin and Fr. Daniel Merz as Concelebrants. Interment will be in the St. George Parish Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy are suggested to St. George Catholic School or St. Ann’s Sodality.
