Betty Lou Tilson

Betty Lou Tilson, age 94, of Columbia, formerly of Westphalia, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at The Bluffs in Columbia.

Betty was born November 8, 1929, in Linn, a daughter to the late Roy and Elva (Crider) McDaniel.

She attended McDaniel School near Linn.

On November 6, 1976, she was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” Tilson in Columbia.  He preceded her in death on June 8, 2013.

Betty was a secretary and a housewife.  She was employed with the Selective Service in Linn along with various other jobs.

She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Linn where she taught bible study.

Betty was also a member of the Fabulous 50’s Club in Columbia.

Betty enjoyed going to church, baking, being known as the “pie lady” of Westphalia along with watching and feeding the birds. However, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family.

Betty is survived by: two sons, Steven Neuner of Richardson, Texas and Richard Neuner and his wife Shawna of Columbia; along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren and stepchildren.

In addition to her parents and spouse of 36 years, she was preceded in death by: one son, Terry Neuner; twin infant girls, Shiela and Shelley Neuner; three brothers, Kenneth, Dick, and Gary McDaniel; and one sister, Jean Whattam-Voss.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at Morton Chapel in Linn.  Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Kayla Kelly-Beard officiating.  Interment will be in Linn Public Cemetery following the service.
