Betty (Bets) Thoenen, 81 of Frankenstein passed away Monday, August 4, 2008 at Capitol Region Medical Center in Jefferson City.
She was born March 26, 1927 in Bernheimer, MO to the late William B. and Angela (Schroeder) Schaefer.
Bets graduated from Linn High School in 1945. Following graduation she worked in Washington DC and at the Linn Court house.
On June 19, 1948 she married Edward John Thoenen at St. George Catholic Church in Linn. He preceded her in death on March 22, 1997.
Bets was a homemaker, worked with the Head Start program and assisted at the election polls. She was a member of the Our Lady of Help Church and the St. Ann's Sodality. Bets was also a volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital in Jefferson City. She enjoyed quilting, working crossword puzzles and had collected 2,203 salt and pepper shakers. Bets loved spending time with her family and attending sporting events for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include, six sons: Jim and Merilee, John and Sarah, Joe and Donna all of Linn, Jerry and Betty of Frankenstein, Ed and Stacy of Loose Creek , Jeff and Peggy of Jefferson City; four daughters, Peggy and John Hemeyer of Frankford, MO, Ruth and Dennis Block of Loose Creek, Rose Thoenen of Loose Creek , Jean Hall and friend Donnie Kluge of Jefferson City; six brothers, Albert Schaefer of McPherson, KS, Bob and Esther Schaefer of Frankenstein, Jerry Schaefer, Dick and Kay Schaefer both of Wolf Lake, IL, Eugene and Bonnie Schaefer of Cypress, IL, Tom and Susan Schaefer of Columbia, MO, three sisters, Joan and Leo Fischer of Thebes, IL, Lillian Luckenotte, Susan and Jim Evers both of Holts Summit, 26 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Chad Thoenen and Melissa Block, one sister-in-law Sharon Schaefer and one brother-in-law Jim Luckenotte.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2008 at Morton Chapel in Linn, Missouri with a Rosary Service at 7:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 8, 2008 at Our Lady of Help Church with Father I.C. Medina as the Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Garden of Gethsemane Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation or Our Lady of Help Catholic Church, Frankenstein.
