Betty Jean Peters, age 81 of Loose Creek, passed away, Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at SSM Health St Mary’s in Jefferson City.
Betty was born July 21, 1935, in Jefferson City, a daughter to the late Fred and Ida (Wankum) Distler.
Betty attended grade school in St Martins and was a 1953 graduate of St. Peters High School in Jefferson City.
On November 16, 1957, she was united in marriage to Charles H. Peters, Sr. in St. Martins. He survives of the home.
Betty was a homemaker most of her adult life and had worked for the Division of Employment Security. She and her husband also operated a hatchery and feed store in Loose Creek and owned and operated the Bermuda Shop in Jefferson City.
Betty was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Loose Creek, St. Ann's Ladies Sodality, Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary; Monsignor Ralph Kutz 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, SSM St Mary’s Ladies Auxiliary, the American Legion Post 5 Ladies Auxiliary, the Red Hat Society and she also enjoyed working crossword puzzles, traveling, gardening and spending time with her family.
In addition to her husband of 59 years, Betty is survived by: one daughter, Jeanne Smith and her husband Willie of Jefferson City; one daughter-in-law, Rhonda Peters of Linn; two brothers, Frank “Butch” Distler and his wife Rosie of Jefferson City and Harold Distler and his wife Phyllis of Overland Park, KS; one sister, Marilyn Meininger of St. Peters; six grandchildren, Chad (Amy) Peters, Darren (Amanda) Peters, Tiffany (Fiancé Jon Keenan) Peters, Brittany (Matthew) Pointer, Michelle Smith and Tanner Smith; five great grandchildren, Tyler, Dylan, Olivia, Everett and Londyn, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by: one son, Charles Peters, Jr, three brothers, James Distler, Fred “Fritz” Distler and Dennis Distler as well as a grandson, Darrell Peters.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Loose Creek.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 23, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Fr. Louis Nelen as the Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Parish Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Immaculate Conception School.
