Bernice K. Kliethermes, age 90, of Linn, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 21, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Bernice was born on September 29, 1934, in Loose Creek, a daughter to the late Gerhard and Gertrude (Schlangenstein) Schaefer.
Bernice was a 1953 graduate of Fatima High School.
On October 8, 1955, Bernice was united in marriage to Harry A. Kliethermes at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Loose Creek, MO. Harry survives in Jefferson City.
Bernice was employed with the Missouri Department of Revenue until her retirement in 1999. She also cooked at St. George Catholic School for a time. She was a devoted member of St. George Catholic Church in Linn. She occasionally played the organ for the church in Loose Creek.
Bernice’s greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a talented homemaker and enjoyed baking homemade bread and pies. She was gifted at preparing delicious meals that the whole family enjoyed. When she wasn’t cooking and cleaning, she was a queen of the QVC shopping network! She took pride in a neat and tidy home, and appearance.
Bernice and Harry were especially fond of dancing, often where their daughter, Sharon, played and sang in a band. They met at a VFW dance! She and Harry traveled to Germany, Alaska, Hawaii, and numerous other states where family and friends lived.
In addition to Harry, her husband of sixty-nine years, Bernice is survived by her eleven children: Deborah Kliethermes of Camano Island, WA., Sharon Loesch of Linn, Rodney (Bonnie) Kliethermes of Linn, Dale (Mary Ruth) Kliethermes of Linn, Patrick (Tammy) Kliethermes of Linn, Curtis (Michelle) Kliethermes of Linn, Ken (Leslie) Kliethermes of Keller, TX., Dewayne (Kana) Kliethermes of Overland Park, KS., Annette Patterson of Jefferson City, Terry Kliethermes and friend Rhonda Elliott of Linn, and Tammy (Jason) Rew of Lee’s Summit; eighteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Larry (Pat) Schaefer of New Bloomfield; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents, Bernice was preceded in death by three brothers, Sylvester (Ches), Vincent, and Norbert Schaefer, and one sister, Elizabeth Waggoner.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 31, 2025, at St. George Catholic Church in Linn.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at St. George Catholic Church with Rev. Colin Franklin as the Celebrant. Inurnment will be in St. George Parish Cemetery, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the family or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
