Ben Luebbert, age 85, of Linn, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Ben was born on December 26, 1938, in Rich Fountain, a son to the late Adam Herman and Virginia Ann (Brandt) Luebbert.
On November 26, 1960, he was united in marriage to Ella Mae Pope in Jefferson City. Ella Mae preceded him in death on June 21, 2017.
Ben was a lifelong farmer, who enjoyed watching the hay being baled, getting on the four-wheelers and working with the cows until 1974 when he went to work for the Missouri Department of Corrections. He retired as a Captain after 26 years of service. He left a legacy of impeccable work ethic which was demonstrated to his children and grandchildren.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rich Fountain, where he found comfort going and watching Mass online.
Ben enjoyed having huge gardens where he shared his tomatoes, fishing with his friends and grandchildren, finding the biggest mushrooms (the size of dinner plates), and collecting coins which he shared with his grandchildren. He coached his sons in baseball, and he loved to cheer on his children and grandchildren’s sports and in their academics. Ben often enjoyed eating at restaurants and getting to know the staff. In his later years, he loved being generous to the staff. If Ben and Ella Mae weren’t helping with the grandchildren, they would be vacationing with their friends.
Ben loved talking with good friends, like George and Jerry on the phone and spending time with a good friend over the last several years, Marcella Bax and her loving family who were a treasure to him and the Luebbert family.
Ben is survived by four sons, Dennis (Melody) Luebbert of Springfield, Daniel (Laura) Luebbert of Holts Summit, David (Mary) Luebbert of Rich Fountain, and Douglas (Lisa) Luebbert of Holts Summit; three daughters, Debrah (Matt) Lumpkin of Linn, Denise (Jeff) Stotler of Columbia and Dana (John) Monnette of Linn; sixteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; a brother, Norbert (Kristy) Luebbert of Westphalia; two sisters, Irene Strope and her husband Robert of Linn and Generose Brandt of Jefferson City; a sister-in-law, Laura Luebbert of Rich Fountain; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife of 56 years, Ben was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Darla Luebbert, a daughter-in-law, Sandy Luebbert; and a brother, Casper “Cap” Luebbert, Sr., along with many good friends and relatives over the years.
Ben understood that God loved him by experiencing kindness from others; in celebration of Ben’s life show kindness to someone today so they too can experience Gods love.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rich Fountain with a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. William D. Debo as the Celebrant. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to N2Action in Columbia or PATCH program in Chillicothe.
