Arlene Adele Luechtefeld, age 83, of Linn, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at her home.
Arlene was born on September 25, 1940, in Port Hudson, a daughter to the late Albert and Alvina (Depperman) Kassebaum, one of 4 children. Arlene attended grade school at Liberty School in Casco and was a 1958 graduate of Washington High School.
On October 4, 1958, Arlene was united in marriage to Bernard “Ben” Luechtefeld at Holy Family Catholic Church in Port Hudson. Ben preceded her in death on February 25, 2021.
In addition to keeping the home and raising her seven children, Arlene was a talented seamstress. She sewed many of her children’s clothes and was known for sewing bridesmaid dresses and prom dresses. She enjoyed watching Cardinal baseball games, doing crossword puzzles, her two cats and feeding and watching the hummingbirds on her porch. There were so many hummingbirds that she would need to fill several feeders multiple times a day. Family was very important to Arlene, and she loved it when her children and grandchildren came to visit.
Arlene was a member of St. George Catholic Church in Linn where she attended Mass with her husband Ben and their children.
Arlene is survived by her seven children, Betty (Terry) Vollmer, of Pilot Grove, Barb Kiso, of Jefferson City, Robert (Lesia) Luechtefeld, of Roeland Park, Kansas, Roger (Lisa) Luechtefeld, of O’Fallon, Beverly (Jon) McCracken, of New Bloomfield, Belinda (Brent) Pickett, of Lake St. Louis, and Becky (Steve) Haden, of O’Fallon; 13 grandchildren, DeAnn, Alicia, Bradley, Kelsey, Amanda, Brianna, Kyla, Isabel, Braden, Sydney, Caleb, Molly, and Hannah; eight great-grandchildren; sister Marilyn (Albert) Bade, and brother Marvin (Barb) Kassebaum, along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Arlene was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Leonard and Loretta Kassebaum.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 22, 2024, at St. George Catholic Church in Linn with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Colin Franklin as the Celebrant. Interment will be in the St. George Parish Cemetery.
