Albert W. Haslag, age 98 of Loose Creek, died Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at his residence.
Albert was born July 11, 1925, in Loose Creek, MO, a son to the late Conrad and Gertrude (Orscheln) Haslag, Sr.
On August 13, 1947, Albert was united in marriage to Genrose Rachel Oidtman, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Loose Creek. She preceded him in death on April 23, 1998.
He attended grade school and high school in Loose Creek, MO, graduating in 1943.
Albert was a Navy veteran of WWII, serving with the Naval Amphibian Assault/Special Ops. Forces in the Pacific theatre. Albert drove an LCM (Landing Craft Mechanized) during WWII, hauling troops—primarily Marines and Army Infantry—and equipment to the beaches. He took part in 7 different island invasions in the South Pacific and the Philippines as part of General MacArthur’s island-hopping campaign.
Albert was a broiler, turkey and hog farmer until he retired. He worked for MFA Poultry Division as a turkey procurement agent. He served on the National Broiler Advisory Committee during the Kennedy Administration, representing the State of Missouri.
He was an active member of Immaculate Conception Parish in Loose Creek, serving as President of the Parish Council and was instrumental in helping build the original Loose Creek Community ball field. He was also active in VFW Post 4756 of Linn, MO, where he served two terms as Post Commander. He belonged to the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aire #2693 in Jefferson City, MO, in addition to being an active member of the Bonnots Mill Knights of Columbus.
Albert is survived by his children, Janice (James Asche) Muenks Backes of Loose Creek and her children and step-children: Heather (Bert) Eisterhold, Lanelle (Shane) Hoecker, Nicholas Wade (Carrie) Muenks, Nathan (Jesse) Muenks, Brian Stegeman, Mike (Kim) Backes, Marc Backes, and Jena (Brett) Dudenhoeffer; Warren (Helen) Haslag of Linn and their children and step-children: Mandy Branson, Clayton (Tasha) Haslag and Lyle Haslag, Nick (Chikka) Wildhaber and Jacob (Jeri) Wildhaber; and Tracy (Stacy) Bax, Ryan Bax and Nichole Bax; Elaine (Marvin) Bescheinen of Versailles and their children: Jennifer (Terrence) Lujin and Aaron (Deborah) Bescheinen; Nina Crowe of Loose Creek and her children: Bethany (Jake) Neuner and Ryan (Rachel) Crowe; Mary Nell (Butch) Turner of Tebbetts, MO and their children: Dustin (Christy) Frey, Corey (Jonathan) Mack, Beau Turner and Claire Turner; Ellen (James) Kliethermes of Loose Creek and their children: Sarah Rose (Tom) Smyth and Hannah (Derek) Bisoglio; Wendell (Gail) Haslag of Loose Creek and their children and step-children: Waylon (Alex) Haslag, Ethan (Ashley) Haslag and Amber Haslag, Shaun (Megan) Haslag, Skylor (Kayla) Haslag and Stacy (Tracy) Bax; Wesley (Alicia Holland) Haslag of Loose Creek and his children: Whitney (Ryan) Williams and Kayla (Zach) Ritter, two brothers, Bernard (Connie) Haslag, Sr. and Conrad (Margie) Haslag, Jr. Albert leaves behind an honorary grandchild, Mason Siebert of Columbia, MO and 34 great-grandchildren, 24 step-great-grandchildren, three great, great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Martha Mitchell and Jeanne Marie Porting as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife of 50 years, Albert was preceded in death by a son and a daughter, Eileen Rose; brothers Jerome Haslag and Hugo Haslag; sisters-in-laws Janet Haslag and Theresa Haslag; sons-in-law Nicholas J. Muenks, John P. Backes and Rick Crowe; daughter-in-law Bonnie Wildhaber; and step-grandson Scott Bax.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Loose Creek.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, October 27, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Catholic Church.
Interment with full military honors will be held in the Immaculate Conception Parish Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made to the Immaculate Conception School Foundation or St Jude's Children's Hospital.
